The longing of God

O come to the water, all you who are thirsty!
Though you have no silver, come, eat, and be satisfied!

This is the invitation that God so longs for us to hear. A constant longing for us to hear the invitation to be in relationship with God. To have nothing hold us back from being with God. We desire that God be present and break through all of the things that we place between us and God. All of the things that distract us and prevent us from being the people that we long to be.

Christmas has come and gone. The Magi have returned home via a different road.

Our society has so many things backwards and confused and Christmas is reduced to sentimentality for a single night only. We are invited to join the shepherds and the magi as they go to the scene of the nativity – but we cannot remain there.

The epiphany of Jesus to the nations climaxes over three scenes: the visit of the Magi, the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan and the ministry of Jesus revealed first in the miracle of water into wine during the wedding at Cana. These are but three moments of divine intervention pointing to a much richer reality of God’s longing to tear through the veil that separates us and allow us to experience friendship with the living God.
